Strong storm in Eastern Bulgaria on Saturday, two persons die in Shumen region

Two people died in the region of Shumen, North-Eastern Bulgaria, after a strong storm on November 4. A 51-year-old man from the village of Razvigorovo in the municipality of Hitrino was buried by a collapsed wall. A 67-year-old shepherd from Veliki Preslav was electrocuted after stepping on a fallen wire. A 66-year-old woman was admitted to the Shumen hospital with fractures after a tree fell on her in the Shumen City Garden.

A tornado passed through the Silistra region, which hit the villages of Dolets, Prohlada, Kolobar and Sekulovo. Many roofs were damaged, electricity poles and trees fell. In the municipality of Isperih, many places remained without electricity. 

A state of emergency has been declared in the village of Lavino. There, the wind and rain blew away the roofs of 150 houses, poles and trees fell. A tornado passed at noon for 5 minutes, announced the mayor of the municipality of Isperih, Belgin Shukri, BTA reports. On Sunday, a commission will inspect the damage, Shukri added. 

The Bulgarian Red Cross sent volunteers and psychologists to Lavino to help the homeless. The municipality of Isperih organized a donation campaign to raise funds for those affected in the village of Lavino.

Due to the rain and the passing storm, a partial state of emergency has also been declared in the municipality of Devnya

The storm caused the worst damage in the regions of Smolyan, Targovishte, Razgrad, Silistra and Shumen, the Ministry of the Interior announced.
