The number of crimes has decreased by 3.7% compared to 2022, and 3% more cases were solved, the General Secretary of the Ministry of Interior, Zhivko Kotsev, has reported. A decrease was observed in crimes against persons, theft of cars and theft of property.

However, there has been a serious rise in reports of domestic violence - 1,359 cases so far compared to 749 last year. "81.4% increase in acts of aggression in domestic conditions is extremely disturbing", the general secretary commented.

Zhivko Kotsev revealed more data - in 2022, 153 victims of human trafficking were identified, 8 of which were children. In 2023, 170,000 attempts for illegal crossing of the border were prevented, compared to 139,000 in 2022; pre-trial proceedings initiated in relation to migrant pressure have increased by 80%, and convictions - by 30%.
