The new mayor of Sofia, Vasil Terziev, the regional mayors and the municipal councilors were sworn in before the Sofia Municipal Council at a ceremony earlier today.

The first session of the new city parliament was opened by the regional governor of the capital, Vyara Todeva, who stated: "I believe that the local executive power in the person of Vasil Terziev and his team can and will be an example of honesty and integrity for the people." She wished the newly elected municipal councilors and mayors to turn the Bulgarian capital city into a modern European capital.

The election of the chairman of the Sofia Municipal Council is coming up, which will be a difficult task, since no group has a majority.
The citizens of Sofia are represented by seven political formations - PP-DB-"Save Sofia" with 23 councilors, GERB-SDS - with 14, BSP for Bulgaria - with 9, Vazrazhdane - with 8, KOD (Conservative Union of the Right Wing) and There is Such a People party (ITN) - with 3 each, VMRO-Bulgarian New Democracy - with 1.
