Bulgaria's national football team is to play against Serbia in the last round of the European qualifiers. UEFA President Aleksander Čeferin is expected to arrive in Serbia for the match. Bulgaria is last in Group G with 3 points and hopes to win its first victory of the year after failing to win any of its nine matches in 2023.

The Bulgarian team will be headed by the newly-appointed head coach Ilian Iliev who made his debut against Hungary. Bulgaria was close to earning its first qualifying victory in its home match against Hungary, but defender Alex Petkov headed the ball into his own net seven minutes into stoppage time. Thus, Hungary qualified for the 2024 European Football Championship which will be held in Germany. Meanwhile, a violent protest was held in the area of the stadium because of the state of Bulgarian football and against the management of the Bulgarian Football Union.
