After thousands of Bulgarian football supporters took to the streets of Sofia last week to protest against the management of the national football union, disciplinary proceedings for abuse of authority have been initiated against three law enforcement officers. The three - a squad leader and two senior police officers have been suspended from duty.

At a briefing, Interior Minister Kalin Stoyanov said that he did not accept any form of violence, either against civilians or police officers, BNR's Nikolai Hristov reports. Anyone who used violence will be investigated and held accountable, the minister said, congratulating the police officers who had done their job in a proper and professional manner during the protest.
Stoyanov supported Prime Minister Nikolai Denkov's proposal for a thorough analysis of individual cases of violence during the protests against the Bulgarian Football Union on November 16, with a view to preventing them in the future.
