The Varna Rail Ferry Complex must become a key hub for equipment and cargo to Ukraine - this will be one of the aims of its reconstruction, the Ministry of Transport said.

"The ferry complex is the only transport facility in the EU that allows transport by broad-gauge wagons, such as those used in Ukraine, without overloading. Due to a systematic lack of proper investment, the facility has been brought to the point where a large part of it is unusable," said Transport Minister Georgi Gvozdeykov during a visit to the complex.

More than €6.5 million has been earmarked for the overhaul of the terminal. Contracts for the renovation will be signed by the end of the year.
