After a brief spell of warmer weather, conditions started deteriorating during the night. Code red is in place for 6 regions of Northern Bulgaria, where heavy rain and snow is expected – Vratsa, Montana, Gabrovo, Lovech, Veliko Turnovo and Ruse – where a snow cover of 30 cms and over is expected to form.

For the rest of the country code orange is in place, with the exception of the region of Burgas, where the code is yellow. Meteorologists warn of violent gusts of wind with a speed of over 80 kms. per hour. The Interior Ministry recommends refraining from non-essential travel, and for those travelling – to only choose main roads, to travel with warm clothes and a well-charged telephone, while the Road Infrastructure Agency is reminding drivers to only take to the road if their vehicles are well-prepared for winter conditions, and to drive carefully.
