Bulgaria in a snowy embrace

Heavy snowfall and hurricane-force winds on November 25 and 26 created a complicated situation ‎throughout Bulgaria. Half a million households were left without electricity, in some places there ‎was also a break in the water supply. ‎

Due to the severe weather conditions, a state of emergency has been declared in a number of ‎populated places in the country, as November 27 is a non-attendance day for students in over 280 ‎schools in 13 regions.‎

Snowstorms created problems on Bulgaria's road network. Rail transport is also hindered – the ‎Bulgarian State Railways (BDZ)  informed about delays and cancellation of the movement of some ‎trains due to damage in the contact network.‎

Many broken trees and branches fell over cars and made it difficult to move on the streets of ‎populated areas.‎

Apart from the extreme situation for the citizens, the snow-covered nature pleases the lovers of ‎winter sports, who are already anticipating the start of the ski season. ‎

The highest peak of the mountain Vitosha, close to the capital Sofia, already has 60 cm of snow, on ‎Rozhen in the Rhodopes - over 20 cm, over half a meter is the snow cover of the Borovets resort in ‎Rila Mountain.‎

‎ ‎The sun, the sparkling snow and the still unfallen leaves on the trees create beautiful views.‎
