Bulgaria allows Sergey Lavrov's plane to fly through its airspace en route to Skopje

Bulgaria’s has granted a permission for a plane with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov to fly through its airspace, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said. Sergey Lavrov will take part at the 30th Ministerial Council of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe which will take place on November 30 and December 1 in Skopje.

The overflight permission is temporary and is valid for 3 hours before and 72 hours after the scheduled date and time of overflight, the Foreign Ministry’s note specifies.

The flight permit falls under the exemptions from the EU sanctions against him. The permission granted does not apply to members of Lavrov’s delegation who are also sanctioned under the current EU law. According to media in Skopje, Russia's top diplomat and the U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken will have the opportunity for a direct meeting for the first time since the beginning of the Russian aggression against Ukraine.
