People with disabilities protested in the centre of Sofia with demands for higher disability allowances (DA) and bonuses starting January, not July 1, 2024 as foreseen in the draft budget.

Protesters are also demanding that the minimum disability allowance be brought in line with the minimum pension for age and service; that an indexation of pensions take place every six months; and that child allowances for disabilities, expensive treatments and therapies are covered by the Health Insurance Fund.
Another part of the demands of the protesters concerns the shortage of medicines in pharmacies. "I have been looking for insulin for me and my son for the past four days, but I cannot find it anywhere. You cannot survive more than two days without it," explained one of the protesters.
