There is a decision by the Bulgarian government to support new genomic techniques applied for food and animal feed, MP Toshko Yordanov from ITN, said. He read a declaration against the decision in parliament.

For the Nature coalition of environmental organizations insists in an open letter that "the government should not allow lifting the regulations that protect Europeans from the uncontrolled spread of GMOs in nature and food". The position is also supported by other non-governmental organizations and experts.

"EC insists that new genomic techniques from Category 1 be exempted from risk assessment. In reality, they use technologies and DNA modification," Dr. Svetla Nikolova, Agrolink association, has told BNR. According to her, "the same lobby that pushed through the rejection of the regulation to reduce pesticides" stands behind the removal of GMO regulations. On December 11, EU agriculture ministers will discuss the changes.
