"It would be pernicious for Bulgaria to agree to an Air Schengen only ", MEP Ilhan Kyuchyuk from the Renew Europe Group said for BNR. "This would be a serious retreat from our national position, built up over so many years", said Ilhan Kyuchyuk.

According to him, Austria has softened its stance. "It is a step forward, but there should be a clear deadline, a roadmap - to know when exactly Bulgaria and Romania will be full members of the Schengen area’’. Bulgaria's position is solid in terms of work done, MEP Kyuchyuk said. Asked why enhanced border controls between Bulgaria and Romania and Romania and Hungary are demanded, Ilhan Kyuchyuk pointed out that this was "the most sensitive component" and would clog the data and information handling process.
