So far, Austria has agreed to allow Bulgaria to enter the Schengen area by air only, but negotiations with are still under way. Our country will continue to insist on being admitted to the EU's free movement area by land as well, PM Nikolai Denkov announced at a briefing.

"Joining Schengen by air and sea is already a great success, so we can be happy about it for now. We will negotiate until the last moment to include land borders in a form that is acceptable to us," he said.

A few days ago, the government of the Netherlands, the other country holding up Bulgaria's entry into the Schengen area, gave the green light. But for the veto to be lifted, Bulgaria must now wait for the Dutch parliament to approve the decision.
