Bulgarian ambassador to Romania at forum in Sofia:

The Balkan pace of action must catch up with the European standards

Bulgaria and Romania, throughout the period of accession to the EU, acted as potential members and supported the common foreign security policy, said the Ambassador of Bulgaria to Romania, Radko Vlaykov, before the forum "Europe in the Balkans: A Common Future", which is being held in Sofia.

In his words, there cannot be a country in which a foreign minister declares "why should we be part of the common foreign policy and security policy in the EU, since we are not yet members, but what if they don't accept us".

The diplomat believes that it is the Balkan mentality to delay and postpone and gave an example with the construction of the Danube bridge near Vidin. An agreement was signed in 2001, and the bridge was opened in 2013.

Vlaykov noted that he was encouraged by the initiative of the prime ministers of Bulgaria, Greece and Romania to create a transport corridor through the three countries, with a continuation to Moldova and Ukraine.
