Great start for the Bulgarians at World Rapid and Blitz Chess Championship in Samarkand

Bulgarian chess players Nurgyul Salimova and Ivan Cheparinov topped the women's and men's standings after the first day of the World Rapid and Blitz Chess Championship in Samarkand, Uzbekistan.

The Bulgarian team started the tournament with four wins and just one loss. European team champions Nurgyul Salimova and Antoineta Stefanova prevailed over the representatives of the hosts Hulkar Tohirjonova and Iroda Khamrakulova, while Gergana Peycheva achieved a prestigious victory over former world champion Alexandra Kosteniuk from Russia. Ivan Cheparinov achieved a victory against Raymond Song from Taiwan. Bulgaria’s youngest participant, Nadia Toncheva, lost against Ayan Allahverdiyeva from Azerbaijan.
