Commenting on Defence Minister Todor Tagarev's statement that Bulgaria's participation in the operation in the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden was under discussion, GERB leader Boyko Borissov said that the Bulgarian people did not want to take part in military operations and that his party would not allow it. Borissov pointed out that "sending troops without a parliamentary decision cannot happen", adding that "we are helping Ukraine, we are in solidarity with Israel, but above all we are in solidarity with the Bulgarian people".
