Weather forecast for Bulgaria for 8 January 2024

Cold spell, rainfall, snow expected on Monday

During the night, the southern wind in Eastern Bulgaria will weaken, and in the northeastern regions it will orientate from the north-northeast and with it the temperatures will start to drop. It will be cloudy with rain showers. The morning temperatures will be within wide limits, from 0°C-1°C in the northeastern regions to 8°C-11°C in Southeastern Bulgaria, in Sofia - about 4°C. 


On Monday, January 8, cold air will invade the country. It will be cloudy with showers. Later during the day in many areas of Northern Bulgaria and the high valley fields of the West, the rain will change to snow. Before noon in the north-eastern regions of the country there will be icy conditions. 

The maximum temperatures will be from minus 2°C in Northeastern Bulgaria to 8°C-9°C in places in the South, in Sofia 1°C-2°C. On the night of Tuesday, snow will fall and a snow cover will form in almost the entire country.

In the mountains it will be cloudy with snowfall, in the Rhodopes below 1,000-1,200 meters - rain is expected. The maximum temperature at an altitude of 1,200 metres will be 2-3°C, at 2,000 meters - about minus 3°C.

It will be cloudy along the Black Sea coast with rain showers, which will begin to mix with snow after noon, and will stop later in the day along the northern coast. The temperature of the sea water is 8°C-10°C.

It will be cloudy on the Balkan Peninsula. From the north, as cold air moves in, rain showers will turn to snow over most of the peninsula. Rain will fall mainly in coastal areas. In isolated places, there are conditions for precipitation significant in quantity and accompanied by thunder. The lowest temperature will be in Belgrade - 0°C, the warmest will be in Athens - 17°C.
