The Bulgarian finished the 11-round competition with 8.5 points after 6 wins, 5 draws and no losses. Antoaneta Stefanova was only half a point behind Alexandra Kosteniuk (Switzerland) who won the gold medal. The game between the two former world champions in the 9th round was crucial for the first place. The round ended with a draw, although Stefanova had a serious positional advantage in the endgame.
