Margarethe von Trotta to receive Sofia Award

German film director, actress and screenwriter Margarethe von Trotta is to receive Sofia municipality’s Sofia Award. The award ceremony will take place during the 28th Sofia Film Fest, the organizers say. The first woman to have been awarded a Golden Lion will be a special guest at the festival in Sofia and will present her latest movie Ingeborg Bachmann - Journey into the Desert, a biopic about the relationship of the Austrian poet and author Ingeborg Bachmann with Swiss playwright and author Max Frisch. The film was among the nominations for the Golden Bear award at Berlinale 2023. Margarethe von Trotta is often called the “motor” behind “New German Cinema” and is considered to be one of the foremost feminist film director in the world.
