"The role of media, particularly in radio, is to maintain the trust and connection that we have with the audience, and I think we need to change, develop and transform," said Noel Curran, Director General of the European Broadcasting Union, in an interview for the BNR website on the occasion of World Radio Day on February 13. Mr. Curren was in Sofia at the invitation of BNR director general Milen Mitev.
According to him, radio is here to stay but it must continue to work in this new digital world.

"People think of radio as this legacy medium, and it is developing so dynamically. Take podcasts, for example - podcasting has exploded around Europe. There are so many positive dynamic digital developments in radio. So - yes, radio can survive but needs to change, like all media," he pointed out.

That's why Noel Curran insists there's a big future for radio:

"My wish for the World Radio Day is that radio continues to evolve, to change and be dynamic while at the same time remember that its core is its connection with the audience. And if you can marriage those two and if you do, radio has a very bright future."
