A Bulgarian delegation made a first-of-its-kind visit to the Indiana Statehouse. The aim was to present the history and achievements of the Bulgarian diaspora in Indiana. A significant part of the cultural and historical heritage of the Bulgarian community in Indiana is bequeathed by Bulgarians who arrived from the Macedonia region in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The St. Stephen Church in the capital city of Indianapolis was built in 1915 by Macedonian Bulgarians and houses the Bulgarian Sunday school.

A memorial plaque is placed in central Indianapolis at the site of the first building of the newspaper Macedonian Tribune, which has been published by the Macedonian Patriotic Organization (MPO) since 1927. The delegation was led by the Consul General of Bulgaria in Chicago, Svetoslav Stankov. Ralitsa Kolarova, President of Damyan Gruev Club, Rossi McKee from the Association Bulgarians Abroad 681, Vera Popov, a longtime member of MPO, as well as Father Dimitar, who has been serving in the St. Stephen church for nearly 40 years, were also part of the delegation, reported BGNES.
