On February 24, the Movement for Rights and Freedoms (MRF) holds a national conference to elect its new chairman. According to political analysts, with his candidacy for this position, Delyan Peevski hopes to legitimize his power within the party and to be removed from the sanction lists of the United States and the United Kingdom.

The other candidate is Dzhevdet Chakarov. He is a long-time MP and part of the leadership of the Movement for Rights and Freedoms and is not associated with the so-called "business wing" of MRF. According to analysts, MRF’s founder Ahmed Dogan nominated Chakarov co-chairperson of MRF to create a balance between the political wing and the ‘’business’’ wing in the Movement for Rights and Freedoms.
