A record number of participants took part in the first round of Kangaroo Global Linguistics’ prestigious international English spelling bee. The students are from 137 schools from all over the country, members of the Cambridge Schools Association in Bulgaria, the organizers say. The internal tests for the contest were held on 10 February and the results have been made public. More than 800 students from 135 schools have been admitted to the national round, scheduled for 16 March in Kurdzhali. At this year’s internal tests there were 160 students with a maximum of 100 points in the different levels. After the national round, the representatives of the country will be known for the international contest, comments Paolina Andreeva, expert and event organizer at Klett Bulgaria publishing house, the Bulgarian news agency BTA reports.
