The strategic partnership between Bulgaria and Romania in focus in Bucharest

The diplomatic institutes of both countries gather senior diplomats to discuss way forward in bilateral and regional relations

The Romanian Diplomatic Institute and the Bulgarian Diplomatic Institute organize а round table on the topic: "Bulgaria and Romania - One Year of Strategic Partnership. The Way Ahead”. ‎

The event is being held in Bucharest on March 14 and is dedicated to the anniversary of the signing of a political declaration on strategic partnership between Bulgaria and Romania by Presidents Rumen Radev and Klaus Iohannis, on March 15, 2023 in Sofia.‎

On the occasion of the event that will mark this anniversary, the Romanian Diplomatic Institute states: "Romania and Bulgaria have common historical development and regional interests. Both countries are members of the EU and NATO and have common concerns. We believe it is important to strengthen our common position in the Black Sea in the current context.”‎


The program of the forum includes opening remarks by the directors of the two diplomatic institutes - Dr. Liliana Popescu on behalf of the Romanian Diplomatic Institute and Tania Mihailova, director of the Bulgarian Diplomatic Institute. Daniela Gutman - Secretary of State in the Romanian Foreign Ministry and Elena Shekerletova, Bulgarian Deputy Foreign Minister, will then take the floor. They will talk about Bulgaria and Romania and about the strategy for the future in their relations. The closing words will belong to H.E. Brandusa ‎Predescu - Romanian Ambassador in Sofia and H.E. Radko Vlaykov - Bulgarian Ambassador in Bucharest.

The diplomatic institutes of the two countries are among the institutions that have been advancing bilateral relations in the past one year since the signing of the declaration of strategic partnership between the two countries. In 2023, the Bulgarian Diplomatic Institute published its study "Romanian Foreign Policy in a Geopolitical Context and Bulgaria", in which two Bulgarian researchers described not only the strategic goals of Romanian foreign policy, but also the potential for improving Bulgarian-Romanian relations. relations and proposed approaches to activate the relations between Bulgarians and Romanians. In turn, the Romanian Diplomatic Institute works in the direction of Bulgarian-Romanian and regional relations, and one of these studies, dedicated to Bulgaria, will be mentioned at the event.‎

The Bulgarian National Radio, which signed a partnership agreement with Radio Romania in 2023, is part of this trend of interaction between state institutions on both sides of the Danube.
