The energy poor in Bulgaria are between 25% and 40% of the population according to different methodologies. 40% of the population means 2.4 million Bulgarians who cannot make ends meet. They are considered energy-poor at the current electricity prices, and there is talk of raising prices by 20% to 40%, the President of the Confederation of Independent Trade Unions in Bulgaria Plamen Dimitrov said in an interview with BNT.
He explained that there is currently a regulation for compensation, but it is not clear how it will be financed and implemented.
