25 March has been declared European Authors' Day by the European Commission. Its mission is to celebrate the artists of the Old Continent and to promote interest in reading and linguistic diversity in Europe. The initiative has been held on the last Monday of March since 2023, at the initiative of the then Bulgarian Commissioner for Innovation, Research, Culture, Education and Youth, Mariya Gabriel.

The Day of European Authors encourages younger generations to explore the richness of European literature. In this context, Bulgaria's State Cultural Institute under the Minister of Foreign Affairs has distributed a video in which we are introduced to Petya Kokudeva, a favourite children's author for Bulgarian youngsters at home and abroad

"Authors are always on the trail of a story. Explore the books, read a little and if you like it, get it from the library or a bookstore," advises the writer, who surprises the audience with characters from her book of children's poems for adults "Little Creatures", created together with an illustrator from another European country - the Italian artist Romina Beneventi.

Petya Kokudeva (1982) defines herself as a reader and creator of children's literature, as well as a passionate traveller.

She has a degree in journalism and an MA in creative writing. She has won several national awards for best children's book. Some of her texts have been turned into songs, others have been included in textbooks for primary classes in Bulgarian schools.
