Catholics, Armenians and Protestants celebrate the Resurrection of Christ

Catholics in Bulgaria and around the world celebrate the Resurrection of Christ. The largest Catholic communities live in the Plovdiv and Svishtov regions.

At midnight on Sunday 31 March, the Catholic churches in Bulgaria were filled with the faithful and the clergy greeted them with the words "Christ is risen! Truly, He is risen!", a greeting repeated for centuries with which the Angel of the Lord greeted Mary Magdalene and Mary the mother of James as they arrived at the sepulchre to anoint the body of Jesus.

The Resurrection of Christ is also celebrated by the Armenian community in Bulgaria and around the world. The biggest holiday for the faithful Armenians is always held on the first Sunday after the vernal equinox. For this reason it coincides with that of Catholics and Protestants, and this year is celebrated about a month earlier than the Orthodox Easter.
