The snow on Mount Vitosha, which rises above the capital city, has turned yellow as the Saharan dust continues to blow.

The phenomenon will continue over Bulgaria until at least Tuesday. The western half of the country will have medium to high concentrations, while the east will have lower concentrations, the National Institute for Hydrology and Meteorology said.

Saharan dust drift is common in the spring months, when atmospheric circulation brings in particles from the North African desert. On Tuesday, with a change in the wind and air flow from the northwest, the concentration of Saharan dust over Bulgaria will decrease. Doctors are advising sensitive people with respiratory problems to wear masks outdoors.
