Saints Cyril and Methodius research ship returns from Antarctica

The Bulgarian research ship Saints Cyril and Methodius has returned to Varna from the 32nd Bulgarian Polar expedition.

The ship delivered the structure of the new scientific research laboratory on Livingstone Island. The crew also provided the logistics for three Spanish bases. The ship also cleaned up the island bay. This means we, Bulgarians meet the highest standards of the Antarctic Treaty, Admiral Boyan Mednikarov, Rector of Nikola Vaptsarov Naval Academy said in an interview with the Bulgarian news agency BTA.

Talking about the 32nd expedition which has just ended, the President of the Bulgarian Antarctic Institute Prof. Hristo Pimpirev said the expedition had worked on 12 projects, many of which international. A competition is to be called and scientists in Bulgaria will be able to apply with their ideas. The applicants approved will be able to go and work in Antarctica with the 33rd Polar expedition, Prof. Pimpirev said.
