Speaking about the detention of the head of the Customs Agency, Petya Bankova, the outgoing Prime Minister Nikolai Denkov said in an interview with BNR that it was suspicious that just after a month in this position Bankova suddenly turned out to be the only person investigated in recent years in relation to smuggling channels.
"I did not see any evidence that she was part of the implementation of any criminal intentions," Denkov said and pointed out that these channels have probably existed for years.
"Where is the evidence of SANS from previous years? I have said many times that there is a 'blind spot' in the services in terms of corruption and smuggling. When an inconvenient person comes along, who might be stopping the channels, this person suddenly turns out to be a target of these same services," Denkov pointed out.
