Sofia Botanical Garden opens its doors for the 23rd edition of "Spring Encounters with Plants"

On April 13, when Bulgaria celebrates for the first time the International Plant Appreciation Day, the Botanical Garden of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences opens its doors for the 23rd edition of "Spring Encounters with Plants", the organizers inform. The initiative, dedicated to the incredible diversity, beauty and importance of plants, includes the thematic exhibition "The Green Leaf - the Oxygen Apparatus of the Planet", which can be seen until April 20. The Botanical Garden will be open every day from 10:00 am to 17:00 pm.


On the opening day (April 13), from 11:00 am to 14:00 pm, Associate Professor Dr. Antoaneta Petrova will give lectures on plants.


The Botanical Garden of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences houses the richest public collection of plants in the Balkans, with over 3,300 species from all continents. The decorative varieties created by man are over 1,200, including roses, orchids, traditional Japanese azaleas, camellias, pelargoniums, exotic American fuchsias, Japanese maples, varieties of conifers, thujas, false cypresses, and others.


The collection fund comprises over 4,500 species and forms of plants, which is more than 1% of the diversity of embryophytes in the world.
