European Parliament calls for Bulgaria and Romania to join Schengen via land borders by mid-2024

Long queues at border checkpoints cause problems for drivers, the environment and the European Union's internal market. 

Border crossings for freight transport must be smooth and efficient. Full Schengen membership for Romania and Bulgaria is needed by 2024. This was the summary of the European Parliament's resolution to the EU Council, adopted by a show of hands on Wednesday, reports Free Europe. 
It comes days after Bulgaria and Romania entered the Schengen area by air and sea. The European Parliament insists that the EU Council decide on Schengen by land for Bulgaria and Romania by mid-2024.
