Sofia Mayor Vasil Terziev sent a letter to the Minister of Culture and the Director of the National Institute for Immovable Cultural Heritage insisting that 17 buildings in central Sofia restore their status of immovable cultural property.
''These buildings were cultural monuments, but their protected status has been revoked during different periods. Some of them are iconic, such as the Tsarevets building near the Eagles’ Bridge, while others are small architectural gems located in local streets", Mayor Terziev wrote on Facebook.
Vasil Terziev recalls that since 2000, more than one hundred buildings lost their status of immovable cultural property. ''Unfortunately, a large number of them have been removed, rebuilt or renovated, thereby losing their qualities", Vasil Terziev wrote further.
"I believe that these buildings can be restored to their authentic appearance and utilized. They can help transform Sofia into a city that remembers and cares for its historical values", Vasil Terziev said.
