The first delivery of fresh nuclear fuel, produced by the US company Westinghouse, has already arrived at the Kozloduy Nuclear Power Plant site, caretaker Minister of Energy Vladimir Malinov said. Minister Malinov visited the Kozloduy NPP together with caretaker Premier Dimitar Glavchev. The first 43 cassettes with nuclear fuel will be loaded in Unit 5 of the nuclear power plant.
''This is a long process that started years ago, but the real steps were taken in 2019'', said Minister Malinov. In his words, ''we have now real diversification for the nuclear fuel for Unit 5. We have signed a contract with the French company Framatome to diversify the nuclear fuel for Unit 6'', Vladimir Malinov went on to say.
The Nuclear Regulatory Agency has already issued a license for the storage of the fuel, and the license for its use is expected to be issued on Monday.
