Due to the ongoing military actions in Israel, the Holy Synod of the Bulgarian Orthodox Church has decided that this year a representative of Bulgaria will not travel to Jerusalem for the transfer of the Holy Fire to Bulgaria.

This was announced by Metropolitan Kyprian of Stara Zagora, who is the spokesman of the Holy Synod.

This year Easter will also be celebrated without a spiritual leader after the death of Patriarch Neophyte on March 13 after a long illness.

The election of a new Bulgarian Patriarch will take place on 30 June.
