Jewish organisation Shalom withdraws awards from journalists Peter Volgin and Yuliana Metodieva

The leadership of the Shalom organisation of Jews in Bulgaria and the organising committee of the annual Shofar awards have unanimously decided to withdraw the awards from journalists Petar Volgin and Yuliana Metodieva, Shalom said in a press release.

Volgin received the organisation's highest award in 2009. He was stripped of the award for "expressing pro-Russian and anti-democratic positions (including against the EU and NATO) and for spreading conspiracy theories and untrue information".

Metodieva was awarded a shofar in 2018. The award was withdrawn "for persistently demonising the State of Israel and justifying the crimes committed by the Hamas terrorist organisation".
