Minister of e-Government: Foreign countries are sponsoring cyberattacks against state institutions because of upcoming elections

Attempts at cyberattacks against the websites of state institutions are constantly being registered because of the upcoming elections for European and national parliament, caretaker Minister of e-Government Valentin Mundrov said in an interview with Nova TV. The attacks are sponsored by foreign countries, he added. “The Ministry of e-Government, along with other institutions, are handling the situation,” Minister Mundrov said further.

Valentin Mundrov stated no problems with machine voting were expected during the upcoming elections for European and national parliament, and added that the procedure of registration of the conformity of the machines starts today, and will be monitored by experts from the State Agency for National Security. 

More than 11,600 voting machines will be used in the 9 June elections. There will also be video surveillance during ballot counting which can be watched online.
