Bulgaria's Pernik will host the 44th annual meeting of the Federation of European Carnival Cities, which is opening today, the municipal administration announced. More than 100 delegates from 20 countries are expected to elect a new president and new leadership of the organisation.

The Bulgarian town was unanimously chosen as host because of the good organisation of the 29th edition of the International Festival of Masquerade Games "Surva".

The event will be officially opened with a parade of the flags of the participating countries.

Pernik has been a member of the Federation of European Carnival Cities since 1995, and in 2009 it was elected European Capital of Masquerade Games.
