Archaeologists have discovered exceptional finds during construction works for a new bus station in the Black Sea city of Sozopol. A monastery dating back to the end of the 11th century was discovered. Within its borders there was also a church from the second half of the 12th century, built on an earlier necropolis, BNR Burgas reported.
In the 12th century, a large Christian necropolis was formed around the monastery. There is a large amount of finds from the life in the monastery that archaeologists unearth. At the end of the 13th century, the monastery and the church were destroyed by fire. After the destruction of the church, a road was built over it. According to archaeologists, this is strange, because sacred places were generally not neglected.
