Bulgarian researchers will study rock paintings in Algeria

Prof. Nikolay Ovcharov

Bulgarian archaeologist Prof. Nikolay Ovcharov and writer and traveller Severina Markova are going on an expedition to Algeria and the Sahara desert.

Prof. Ovcharov told BNR that the two are heading to the richest collection of rock paintings in the world, in the heart of the Sahara, dating back to about 6-7,000 years ago.

Nikolay Ovcharov explains that these drawings of the Saharan massifs were discovered by French scientists. According to him, the vast majority of these drawings have not yet provided us with all the information.

He and Severina Markova hope to contribute to the study of the rock paintings.
