The coffin containing the remains of Tsar Ferdinand I (born 1861 - died 1948) has been placed in the central foyer of the Vrana Royal Palace in Sofia for viewing. They will then be transferred to the family crypt in the palace. They were flown to Bulgaria by military aircraft from the German town of Coburg, where the Tsar lived in exile.
The funeral procession was met in front of the Vrana Palace by his grandson Simeon Saxe-Coburg-Gotha and his family.

Simeon Saxe-Coburg-Gotha can be seen at the back of the photograph, behind the coffin.
Ferdinand Saxe-Coburg-Gotha was born in 1861 in the Austrian Empire, Bulgarian Prince (25 June 1887-22 September 1908) and Tsar (22 September 1908-3 October 1918) of Bulgaria. The return of the remains of Tsar Ferdinand took place 76 years after the monarch's death. Until now, the remains were buried in the crypt of "St. Augustine" in the Bavarian town of Coburg.
