The 39th national march "In the Footsteps of Tanyo Voivode's Detachment" began from the town of Tutrakan. The event is held under the auspices of Bulgaria’s President Rumen Radev. The traditional reenactment of the detachment's descent to the Danube shore was performed. In the space of four days, more than 350 Bulgarian students will pass through 28 settlements in the Danubian Plain, the Ludogorie region and the Polomie region to reach Kerchan Bair near the village of Aprilovo, where on June 2 they will hear the sirens in memory of those who fell for the freedom of Bulgaria. They will cover a distance of 220 kilometers.

On May 17, 1876, six hours before Hristo Botev's detachment set foot on the bank of the Danube at Kozloduy, 28 rebels led by Voivode Tanyo Stoyanov crossed the Danube and set foot on Bulgarian land near the village of Pozharevo. This was the second detachment of the Bulgarian emigration in Romania, formed to support the April Uprising.
