The armoured personnel carriers we have sent to Ukraine are being used for internal defence and that is why there is no need to impose any restrictions, said caretaker Minister of Defence Atanas Zapryanov in a comment, on bTV, on whether the armaments received by Kyiv can be used for strikes against military targets on the territory of Russia.

“Bulgaria abides by the UN Charter regarding the aid for Ukraine, all the more so that everything we have sent as aid packages, is defensive in character,” Minister Zapryanov said, and went on to add that according to the charter of the organization, Ukraine, as a victim of aggression, has the right to receive and use the aid it has been granted as it sees fit, i.e. the use, by Ukraine, of the combat systems it has been given for strikes against military targets on the territory of Russia is not a violation of international law.

The Bulgarian defence minister stated further that he does not agree with President Rumen Radev, who stated that all NATO member countries were, one or another, involved in the war in Ukraine. Minister Zapryanov said further that the question of sending Bulgarian troops to Ukraine has never been discussed by the current or the previous government, adding that such a decision is within the powers of the Bulgarian parliament.
