President holds second round of consultations over cabinet formation

On the second day of consultations with President Rumen Radev over forming a government, the leader of "Vazrazhdane" Kostadin Kostadinov expressed confidence that it was possible to have a cabinet within the new National Assembly. He justified his assumption with the fact that without the votes of the first and second forces (GERB-SDS and DPS) the other parties still had a total of 125 MPs.

"The formula for getting out of the political situation was set by the Bulgarian voter who decided that there should be more parties in the parliament that declare that they will not govern with GERB and DPS", Kostadin Kostadinov said. The leader of "Vazrazhdane" said that if the first and second political forces failed to form a cabinet, his formation was ready to receive the third mandate and talk with everyone with the exception of GERB and DPS to form a broad government with a consensus figure for prime minister.

The party leader also commented on the extremely low voter turnout: "One reason for voter apathy is that there are two parties that are a serious problem for the functioning of the political system, and these are GERB and DPS. In this election, there was an outflow of over 500,000 voters.”

Speaking to President Rumen Radev, the leader of "Vazrazhdane" Kostadin Kostadinov raised the question of possible convening of an Advisory Council for National Security on the occasion of the upcoming election of a patriarch. According to him, the church could become "a link in the plan for the implementation of a creeping Ukrainization in Bulgaria". "I made an inquiry and I received an answer that there is no such threat or a threat of such magnitude that you are talking about," Rumen Radev replied.

During the meeting with the representatives of the fifth-strongest parliamentary force - BSP, MP Borislav Gutsanov said that the topic on the first and second mandates has been exhausted, but there is an opportunity to try and form an expert cabinet with the third one. He added that the choice of whom to hand over the mandate is up to the president and if it is the BSP, the party is ready to take the responsibility.

"There are two paths in front of BSP - one is to be bystanders and the other is to try to participate in these processes," Atanas Zafirov, acting party chairman, said. According to him, the result of the elections renders the talk of a minority government, proposed yesterday by GERB-SDS, meaningless.

Atanas Zafirov pointed out that BSP will not participate in any form in governance with GERB.
