Bulgaria is hosting the international forum on the Cyrillic alphabet "Alphabet. Language. Identity" where more than 30 scholars from 12 countries are taking part.
At the opening of the event  in the National Palace of Culture in Sofia, President Rumen Radev pointed out that Bulgaria is a country of the spirit, which thousands of years ago has become one of the cultural and spiritual centers of Europe.

The forum was initiated by Vice President Iliana Iotova and organized with the support of the Ministry of Education and Science.

In his speech, President Radev stressed that writing preserves our identity and the mother tongue is the first and greatest gift we receive from our parents.

"Without the miracle of letters, generations of bright minds would have shone only within the narrow confines of their time, and progress and science would have been impossible," the President said, adding that strong nations have disappeared when they failed to preserve their language.

In Radev's words, it is writing that preserves our identity and expresses the diverse nature of people and nations, and we, Bulgarians, preserve this feeling that is dear to us.

The celebration dedicated to the Bulgarian alphabet, education and culture and the Slavonic script shows that they are deeply embedded in our statehood and institutionality, the Head of State further pointed out.
