The government is working to reduce as much as possible the time taken to pay compensation to victims of the country's recent fires. All those affected will be able to receive up to BGN 1 578 (EUR 800) from the Social Assistance Agency for emergency needs. This was announced after a meeting of the Council of Ministers' Security Committee.
A fund under the Ministry of Agriculture and Food will pay compensation to farmers who have lost animals or had their crops destroyed. A compensation mechanism for individuals will also be sought.
A decision will also be taken on how to help people who have lost their homes. It has been decided that the government will equip two more fire-fighting helicopters with water buckets as soon as possible. Two helicopters are currently being used for this purpose.
Prime Minister Dimitar Glavchev once again praised the work of the fire services and institutions.
"During my visits, I saw no shortcomings and heard no criticism. The only place with a different opinion was the village of Voden. In all other places, the residents were extremely grateful to those who saved their lives and property," the caretaker prime minister pointed out.
