The 145th anniversary of the establishment of the Bulgarian Navy will be celebrated tonight in the city of Ruse.

At 8:00 p.m. in front of the Dohodno Zdanie (Revenue Building), a festive concert of the Representative Brass Band of the Naval Forces will be held, which will mark the 140th anniversary of the creation of the naval band. Before that a military ritual will be held to lay wreaths and flowers in front of Bulgaria's only Sailors’ Monument. "Bulgarian seamanship begins here" reads the inscription on the monument, from where the celebrations on the occasion of the founding of the Navy traditionally begin every year.

On August 12, 1879, the military fleet of Bulgaria was established in the Danube city of Ruse and at the end of the 19th century the Black Sea fleet was also established. In 1897, the Flotilla and the Marine Division were divided into the Danube Flotilla with headquarters in Ruse and the Marine Division with headquarters in Varna.
