Deputy district governor of Blagoevgrad:

Greece does not extinguish the fire in its part of Slavyanka mountain, it might enter Bulgaria

There is a danger that the raging fire in the Greek part of Mount Slavyanka will cross into Bulgarian territory, the Deputy Governor of Blagoevgrad Elkhan Kalkov has warned. "We need to find common actions with the Greek authorities," he said, adding that Bulgarian teams are ready to go to Greece to extinguish the fire.

Currently, the situation in the Slavyanka mountain on the Bulgarian side is relatively calm. Isolated smoldering stumps are observed, but the danger remains in the westernmost part due to smoldering outbreaks and unquenched fires in Greece.

"The situation becomes dangerous especially in the afternoon when with the heat and the appearance of the wind the fire is transferred to Bulgarian territory. For this reason, we have concentrated all our forces in the westernmost part of the mountains," said Elhan Kalkov.

According to him, no measures are being taken on the Greek side as this fire is probably not among the priorities given the many fire outbreaks in the interior of the country.
