Ten common kestrels and two common buzzards were released near the Kremikovtsi Monastery. "We released birds that were either healed or hatched from pairs that can no longer survive in the wild", said Hristina Klisurova from the Wildlife Rehabilitation and Breeding Center of Green Balkans.
Since the beginning of the year, over 60 white storks and more than 20 kestrels have been released from the rescue center. Swallows and swifts are also released on a daily basis. "We also released 12 saker falcons hatched here, as well as nocturnal birds of prey like owls, pygmy owls and Eurasian scops owls", added Hristina Klisurova.
Last year, Green Balkans’ rescue center admitted a total of 2,595 animals, the highest number in the center's 28-year history. 47% of them were released back into the wild.
