President Rumen Radev did not accept Kalin Stoyanov to remain in the position of Minister of Interior and refused to sign a decree appointing a caretaker government headed by Goritsa Grancharova-Kozhareva.
The head of state asked Goritsa Grancharova-Kozhareva to present a new candidate for interior minister by 3:00 p.m. According to Radev, Stoyanov would not guarantee the conducting of fair elections. The prime minister-designate refused to do this, saying she had consulted members of different departments in the ministry who assured her of the good work until now of the caretaker interior minister.
Following Kozhareva's respose, the President said that the elections would be held after October 20 and that there would be no swearing-in of the caretaker government on August 20. He called on the still active National Assembly to convene an extraordinary session to complete the so-called "house book" (nominations list - ed) from which he can choose potential caretaker prime ministers.
